Suspension insulators
Suspension insulators are available for ball & socket or clevis-tongue coupling. Standard caps are constructed of hot-dip galvanized malleable iron. Cotter keys for locking ball & socket and clevis pin connections are stainless steel. The normal type disc suspension insulators include standard type and large creepage distance type, which are widely used in clean area and light pollution area.
Pin type insulators
Pin Insulator is earliest developed overhead insulator, but still popularly used in power network up to 36KV system,It is single stag ,Two insulators cannot be fixed together for higher voltage application,Conductor is fixed on the top of the insulator by binding and metallic fixing arrangement provided only on bottom end of the insulator.
Spool insulators
The shackle insulator or spool insulator is usually used in low voltage distribution network. It can be used both in horizontal and vertical position. The tapered hole of the spool insulator distributes the load more evenly and minimizes the possibility of breakage when heavily loaded. The conductor in the groove of shackle insulator is fixed with the help of soft binding wire.

Guy strain insulators
Strain insulator are used in guy cables supporting utility poles, to prevent any high voltage on the cable due to leakage currents or an electrical fault on the pole from reaching the lower part of the cable which is accessible by the public. They are also used in guys supporting radio antenna masts. This design has two mechanical advantages. The ceramic is under compression rather than tension, which takes advantage of ceramic's greater compressional strength; and if the ceramic breaks the two wire loops are still linked and will not fall to the ground.

Line post insulator is an insulator of generally columnar shape, and it consists of one post insulator unit or an assembly of such units and is intended to give rigid support to a live part which is insulated from earth or from another live part. Station post insulator may be manufactured according to IEC, ANSI, BS and other standards,and are widely used for power station equipments.
